A branch provider unit is used in multi-zone installations as a connection point for connecting the line sets from the outdoor unit to a specific number of indoor units. Daikin's 2-zone branch provider unit (BPMKS048A2U) will connect 2 indoor units and is rated for a maximum connection combination of 48,000 BTUs and for a minimum of 7,000 BTUs. Depending on how many indoor units you will be installing, the correct size distribution unit needs to be installed. Daikin also offers a 3 unit (BPMKS049A3U) which is rated to a maximum of 62,000 BTU connection combination. There is no need to use all the ports available at the time of your initial installation. If you think you will be adding additional indoor units in the future, you can "cap off" the unused ports on the branch distribution units until that later time.
Below is an installation example. The photo below illustrates an example of an 8 zone installation. In this example installation, the individual units are connected to a single exterior unit by way of the 3 branch provider units and 2 "y" connectors.
When installing two branch provider units, you will need to install a "Y" branch or piping connection kit (KHRP26A22T) to the line set to one of the branch provider units. If installing three branch provider units (as illustrated above), you will need 2 connection kits.
